Are you experiencing a challenge and don’t know where to turn?

If you or a loved one needs help, there are national and local organizations for community services, substance misuse, domestic violence, mental health, traumatic events, natural disasters and suicide prevention.

The following list contains a variety of hotlines, websites, support groups and resource listings that you can contact for more information and assistance.

Domestic Violence Resources


Homelessness Resources

  • National Alliance to End Homelessness: A nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to end homelessness in the United States. Lists things you can do to access shelter, food and healthcare in your community.
  • National Coalition for the Homeless: Information for individuals who identify with homelessness, are currently homeless or may become homeless in a few days or weeks.

Military Resources

  • Cohen Veterans Network: Quality, accessible, and comprehensive mental healthcare to veterans and their families, regardless of their ability to pay, role, or discharge status.
  • Give An Hour: Free, confidential counseling to military individuals, couples, families, children, and adolescents.
  • inTransition: Free telephonic coaching program that helps veterans connect with mental health services. Call 1-800-424-7877. 
  • National Center for PTSD: Learn about PTSD from Veterans who've experienced it first-hand and find out how specific PTSD therapies turned their lives around.
  • PTSD Foundation of America: Evidence-based peer-to-peer mentoring, both on an individual basis and in group settings. Programs and services are provided free of charge to veterans and their families, allowing the focus to remain on their journey to healing. Call 1-877-717-7873.
  • Vets 4 Warriors: Connect with other combat Veterans confidentially by phone. Call 1-855-838-8255. 
  • Veterans Affairs (VA): Mental health services for veterans.
  • Veterans Administration Centers: Free group, individual, and couple/family counseling, and help with any issues related to military service and re-adjustment to civilian life. Call 1-877-WAR-VETS (1-877-927-8387). 
  • Veterans Administration Transition and Care Management Team (TCM): The main point of contact for coordinating and accessing mental health services through the VA.

Mental Health Resources

  • National Maternal Mental Health Hotline: A free, confidential resource that provides 24/7 support for mothers who are pregnant or have just had a baby. Mothers can call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA (833-852-6262) to speak to trained, compassionate, and caring counselors. Counselors speak English and Spanish, and there are interpreters available for over 60 languages. 

  • Mental Health America: Offers a resource page that includes links to local MHA support groups as well as a comprehensive listing of national support groups, other helpful resources, and national, toll-free 24-hour hotlines on a variety of topics.

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Helpline: Helpline operates Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Eastern. Dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Offers support groups nationwide. Call 800-950-6264.


Natural Disasters, Traumatic Events and Crisis Resources


Substance Misuse

  • Alcoholics Anonymous: A group of recovering alcoholics who meet regularly to help each other stay sober. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem.
  • Al-Anon: Help and hope for family and friends of alcoholics. Locate meetings, get answers to frequently asked questions, and find resources and information how to help a loved one.
  • Alateen: A place just for teens affected by someone else’s alcoholism.
  • American Addiction Centers, DrugAbuse.com: Provides detailed information about substance use support groups for the individual and their family members, including the types of groups available, the benefits of joining, and frequently asked questions, as well as links to find a group near you.
  • Narcotics Anonymous: A group of recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. Membership is open to anyone for whom drugs have become a major problem and who has a desire to stop using.
  • Shatterproof: A national nonprofit dedicated to reversing the addiction crisis in the U.S. Provides resources to find the right type of treatment and treatment facilities, support for recovery, and education to combat stigma.

Suicide and Depression Resources

988 Lifeline: Free, private, 24/7 help for people in crisis or thinking about suicide. Access crisis support and prevention tools for you and your loved ones. Support is available in multiple languages.
